Our congress, following the new international models, will be preceded by a Techno-College where the new emerging techniques and their future impact in our practice will be discussed. We will offer our colleagues wet labs hands-on training in well known techniques, guided by expert professors, as well as sessions in simulators with the objective of enhancing skills in percutaneous procedures. We will have movie sessions on operative techniques for innovative procedures and for procedures well established by clinical evidence, offering interactivity with the participants.
We will present and discuss the latest information on SYNTAX, TRAVERSE, STITCH, RESTORE, besides data of the registries, which reflect our real world.
We will emphasize minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of valvar lesions, arrhythmias and coronary disease, just as we will discuss surgical procedures in the elderly and in heart failure.
We will once again open room for a symposium on professional defense, to talk about problems that impact on our work and we will hear the report on the advances achieved by the medical cooperatives of our specialty.
We will have multidisciplinary panels exploring the mandatory knowledge acquisition and expertise on imaging methods, fundamental for planning, executing and follow-up of our therapeutic decisions.
We will also have the Departments Symposiums and Continuous Education for Residents. As one can see, our intention is to benefit the members with an attractive, modern congress, full of information.
The noblest part of the meeting will be the oral presentations, which reflect the national scientific production and, once published in our journal, now totally indexed in the most important scientific databases for medical data and with universal access, promote Brazilian cardiovascular surgery in a solid way.
To all that we can add the opportunity of social gathering in the beautiful and welcoming city of Belem, gateway to the Amazon forest, that, in its beautiful Conventions Centre will bring to reality one of the best congresses of our Society.
Gilberto Venossi Barbosa
President
Dear colleagues,
As it happens every year, in March 2010 we will have the most important meeting of our society, the 37th Congress of the Brazilian Society for Cardiovascular Surgery (SBCCV). For the first time in the history of the society our meeting will take place in a city in the Northern part of the country, Belem do Para, what makes us very proud but at the same time encompasses an overriding responsibility of gathering SBCCV in the challenge of organizing a great congress. The Convention Center, called Hangar, a former warehouse for small and medium aircrafts, is, without a question, one of the most beautiful and modern Convention Centers in the country, with a unique architecture, preserving its ancient features.
The city, founded in 1616, is a mix of colonial architecture, with the ancient houses of the “old Town” influenced by Portuguese architecture, and modern buildings in other neighborhoods.
Besides the attractive program organized by the Scientific Committee, participants will also have time to enjoy the city, visiting beautiful sites such as Emílio Goeldi Museum, the Religious Art Museum, the Cathedral, Peace Theater, Ver-o-peso Market, Garças Mango Trees, and many others. The special cuisine of the region is also an attraction, with its herbs, fish and fruits, considered a mandatory visit for the chefs de cuisine from all over the world.
Let’s meet in Belem!
Haroldo Koury Maués
Chairman for the 37th Congress of the SBCCV
